About the Winery:
Orin Swift Cellars was founded by David in 1998: Orin is his father's middle name and Swift is his mother's maiden name. With two tons of zinfandel and not much else, he spent the next decade making wine for others as well as himself and grew the company into a multi-national brand that now includes 300 acres of vineyards in the Southwest of France. This international ambition has led to projects in Spain, Italy, Corsica, Argentina and other locations around the globe. In 2016, Orin Swift (the brand, remaining inventory and the tasting room in St. Helena) was purchased by E. & J. Gallo Winery. Founder Dave Phinney continues to be involved in a consulting role.

Notes from the Winemaker:
One of many definitions of the word, abstract, is a summary of something larger, encompassing the crucial elements, making it easy to comprehend on the fly. Abstract, in its own way, is an abstract of our winemaking mission and the ethos of Orin Swift. It will always have our signature drinkability, comprised of fruit from quality vineyards across California and creates conversations - be it about the wine or the label. For those new to Orin Swift, Abstract is a beloved starting point on a journey with us.

Tasting Notes:
Aromatics with gravity, the wine pulls you in with notes of blueberry, black fig, bloodied straw
15.4% Alc. by volume

Ratings & Reviews

 92 Points - Decanter Magazine:

"Black cherry and kirsch, with pronounced oak, vanilla and chocolate notes. Broad and mouth-filling, with a deep concentration of blueberry fruit, black currant, vanilla and mocha. Grippy, angular tannins resolve with good acidity and a lengthy finish of earth, chocolate and cedar. This label was first introduced after the Prisoner sale, having debuted in 2009. 'With over 75,000 square miles of California represented in this blend, it is a true amalgamation,’ says Dave Phinney. The blend for Abstract begins with Grenache, and then they weave in Syrah and Petite Sirah, but the combination and blend differ from year to year. Drink between 2023-2030." - Jonathan Cristaldi
