About the Winery:
Tarima Hill is a project of Bodegas Volver, was founded in 2004 as a joint effort between importer Jorge Ordonez and oenoligist Rafael Canizares. (Jorge Ordonez is literally the guy who single-handedly re-introduced Spanish wines to America around 1987. As one of the most influential people in the Spanish wine world, any of his selections are sure to please!) Canizares recently bought out Ordonez and now owns 100% of the project. He makes use of the talents of Aussie superstar winemaker Chris Ringland, who has produced four 100-point wines, as well as two 99-pointers. The winery is located in Alicante near the largest marble quarry in the world!

Winemaking:
Made from 100% old vine Monastrell (Mourvedre). The grapes come from multiple vineyards located in towns throughout the Vinalopo region: Pinoso, Salinas, El Maña, Monover, planted between 1935 and 1970. Native yeasts. Malolactic fermentation in barrels followed by 14 months in French barrels.

Tasting Notes:
Cherry color with a hint of intense ruby. In the nose ripe fruit, raspberries, blueberries, spices, hints of balsamic and notes of flowers. Tasty in the mouth, balanced and full-bodied. Long finish.

Ratings & Reviews

91 Points - Wine Spectator:
"This supple, medium-bodied red is dark and lightly juicy, featuring baked blackberry, black currant, wild herb, mocha and smoke notes that show a mineral edge. Offers zesty ground spices and balsamic acidity that keep this lively, while well-knit tannins firm the finish. Drink now through 2028. 30,000 cases made, 10,000 cases imported." - Alison Napjus (Mar 2023)

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Inky violet in the glass, this wine has a bouquet of brambly dark and red berries, olive tapenade, and mocha. Tannins come on slightly strong and then recede, revealing flavors of purple plum, cherry, saddle leather and caramel. There is a nice splash of acidity on the closing note." - Mike DeSimone (Sep 2023)

90 Points - James Suckling:
Blackberries, blackcurrants, peppercorns, chili chocolate, vanilla and black olives on the nose. Full-bodied with firm, ripe tannins. Rich, ripe and chewy.
